Protection from Animal Infestation

Rodents, flies and insects can cause damage and illnesses if they gain access to water or sewer systems. An emergency overflow from a water treatment plant or reservoir can become a potential point of contamination if rodents, snakes, birds or other insects or animals are able to enter the reservoir or plant through the emergency outfall pipe. Often there is some form of protection on the end of the pipe. It is essential that this protection is tightly sealed to stop contamination, whilst opening to allow flow when required.

In sewer systems it is preferable to stop rodents from migrating from the sewer to homes. Using a backflow device that is closed in its natural state reduces the risk of rodent migration.
